Boy in the Lighthouse was commissioned by the Hostry Festival for 2018 as its central production. Staged in the round in Norwich Cathedral to a nightly audience of 150, it ran for 6 nights from 22nd – 27th October 2018. Total Ensemble’s largest-scale production to date, Boy in the Lighthouse is a 75-minute, one-act play with a stunning soundscape. Centred around the mysterious boy that lives in an isolated and derelict lighthouse, the production takes the audience on a magical and spine-tingling journey through the boy’s imagination; reality or fantasy?
Boy in the Lighthouse is a dark tale bathed with light. The title was first conceived way back in 2015 by long-term cast member, Hugh Darrah, with the storyline evolving over the course of many workshops held with Total Ensemble’s talented troupe!
Audiences delighted in the choreography which underpins this hauntingly beautiful tale, complemented by a powerful script which challenges the audience’s imagination.
The choreography, script and soundtrack were devised by Total Ensemble’s Artistic Director, Rebecca Chapman, who directed and performed in the production.
