Ground Up & Grass Roots 0.2

'Scene from Above'

Following on from the success of our ‘22-‘23 pilot ‘Ground Up & Grass Roots’ project for residents of Great Yarmouth and surrounding areas, Total Ensemble Arts Initiative ran ‘Ground Up & Grass Roots 0.2’ from September 2023 to April 2024. Primarily this project was aimed at 16–30-year-olds.

Total Ensemble welcomes participants that want to engage, commit, respect and support others, are prepared to be supported themselves, develop confidence, practice important transferable skills, enhance other education or course work, who wish to volunteer and contribute to and enjoy creative community activity. For this project we collaborated with professional artists, musicians, sixth formers from East Norfolk Sixth Form College, people who are not in education, employment or training and the Otium Centre. We ran weekly sessions using ensemble performance skills to form a brand-new creative community.

PHASE ONE – skills developing, confidence-building and connecting with new people.

PHASE TWO – Generation of creative material for which we took inspiration from the natural world and our connection to the local coastal landscape, embracing the cold, windy outdoors.

This culminated in two exciting and exhilarating days of filming with Insight Media on Gorleston Beach underscored and accompanied by local (and international) band, the Hotstove 3 who recorded soundscape and song for our workshops and end of term live performance. Thank you to all our supporters!
